This site is designed to provide you with
information about
Mind-Body Medicine(MBM). The focus is on Tension
Myositis Syndrome(TMS), a common cause of back, neck, arm, pelvic, and
other chronic (lasting months or years) but benign (ultimately solvable) pain syndromes. The approaches (Treatment) described here
have been helpful to tens of thousands of people for relief from back
and neck pain, RSI (arm pain), pelvic pain, as well as a variety of other conditions such
as tension headaches, irritable bowel (IBS), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue
and even migraines (Related Conditions). Dr. Schechter also calls the condition
"Distraction Pain Syndrome" (DPS) because distraction is what the pain does in keeping the individual focused on the physical
rather than the underlying psychological issues. The treatment becomes shifting that focus from physiology to psychology and from
body to brain. Pain is ultimately experienced in the brain. Many pain sufferers don't realize how much they can
control or eliminate their pain by changing their thinking.
Here you will learn the basic mind-body theory of how TMS causes pain(What is TMS?), as well as a self-assessment tool to help you to know if you may be suffering from TMS (Symptoms).
You can learn more about Dr. David Schechter's Comprehensive Treatment Program for TMS offered at his office in Beverly Hills and Culver City, California (Dr. Schechter). If you see yourself as a candidate for this program but can't travel to California, you can order the same educational materials that his patients use and that have been successfully used in published research studies on this condition. . You can also read a list of frequently asked questions (and answers). (Links) Recently, Dr. Schechter made a brief video on RSI which can be viewed below:
Of course, no medical diagnosis or treatment can be made via this web site or via e-mail. You are encouraged to see a competent health care provider in your locality for any pains or illnesses you may be suffering from. Use the menu at left to search the site as you wish.
This site is inspired by the pioneering work of Dr. John Sarno on back pain and
tension myositis syndrome.
